haYashar Jasher 47

1 a:

And Yits'chaq (3327) the son of Av'raham (85) was still living in those days in the land of K'na'an (3667); he was very aged, one hundred and eighty years old, and Esav (6215) his son, the brother of Ya'aqov (3290), was in the land of Edom (123), and he and his sons had possessions in it amongst the children of Se'ir (8165).

2 b:

And Esav (6215) heard that his father's time was drawing nigh to die, and he and his sons and household came unto the land of K'na'an (3667), unto his father's house, and Ya'aqov (3290) and his sons went forth from the place where they dwelt in Chev'ron (2275), and they all came to their father Yits'chaq (3327), and they found Esav (6215) and his sons in the tent.

3 g:

And Ya'aqov (3290) and his sons sat before his father Yits'chaq (3327), and Ya'aqov (3290) was still mourning for his son Yoseph (3130).

4 d:

And Yits'chaq (3327) said unto Ya'aqov (3290), Bring me hither thy sons and I will bless them; and Ya'aqov (3290) brought his eleven children before his father Yits'chaq (3327).

5 h:

And Yits'chaq (3327) placed his hands upon all the sons of Ya'aqov (3290), and he took hold of them and embraced them, and kissed them one by one, and Yits'chaq (3327) blessed them on that day, and he said unto them, May the Elohim (430) of your fathers bless you and increase your seed like the stars of heaven for number.

6 w:

And Yits'chaq (3327) also blessed the sons of Esav (6215), saying, May Elohim (430) cause you to be a dread and a terror to all that will behold you, and to all your enemies.

7 z:

And Yits'chaq (3327) called Ya'aqov (3290) and his sons, and they all came and sat before Yits'chaq (3327), and Yits'chaq (3327) said unto Ya'aqov (3290), Y'hovah (3068) Elohim (430) of the whole earth said unto me, Unto thy seed will I give this land for an inheritance if thy children keep my statutes and my ways, and I will perform unto them the oath which I swore unto thy father Av'raham (85).

8 x:

Now therefore my son, teach thy children and thy children's children to fear Y'hovah (3068) Elohim (430), and to go in the good way which will please Y'hovah (3068) Elohim (430) thy Elohim (430), for if you keep the ways of Y'hovah (3068) Elohim (430) and his statutes Y'hovah (3068) Elohim (430) will also keep unto you his covenant with Av'raham (85), and will do well with you and your seed all the days.

9 j:

And when Yits'chaq (3327) had finished commanding Ya'aqov (3290) and his children, he gave up the ghost and died, and was gathered unto his people.

10 y:

And Ya'aqov (3290) and Esav (6215) fell upon the face of their father Yits'chaq (3327), and they wept, and Yits'chaq (3327) was one hundred and eighty years old when he died in the land of K'na'an (3667), in Chev'ron (2275), and his sons carried him to the cave of Makh'pelah (4375), which Av'raham (85) had bought from the children of Chet (2845) for a possession of a burial place.

11 ay:

And all the ones reigning of the land of K'na'an (3667) went with Ya'aqov (3290) and Esav (6215) to bury Yits'chaq (3327), and all the ones reigning of K'na'an (3667) showed Yits'chaq (3327) great honor at his death.

12 by:

And the sons of Ya'aqov (3290) and the sons of Esav (6215) went barefooted round about, walking and lamenting until they reached Qir'yat Ar'ba (7153).

13 gy:

And Ya'aqov (3290) and Esav (6215) buried their father Yits'chaq (3327) in the cave of Makh'pelah (4375), which is in Qir'yat Ar'ba (7153) in Chev'ron (2275), and they buried him with very great honor, as at the funeral of ones reigning.

14 dy:

And Ya'aqov (3290) and his sons, and Esav (6215) and his sons, and all the ones reigning of K'na'an (3667) made a great and heavy mourning, and they buried him and mourned for him many days.

15 hj:

And at the death of Yits'chaq (3327), he left his cattle and his possessions and all belonging to him to his sons; and Esav (6215) said unto Ya'aqov (3290), Behold I pray thee, all that our father has left we will divide it in two parts, and I will have the choice, and Ya'aqov (3290) said, We will do so.

16 wj:

And Ya'aqov (3290) took all that Yits'chaq (3327) had left in the land of K'na'an (3667), the cattle and the property, and he placed them in two parts before Esav (6215) and his sons, and he said unto Esav (6215), Behold all this is before thee, choose thou unto thyself the half which thou wilt take.

17 zy:

And Ya'aqov (3290) said unto Esav (6215), Hear thou I pray thee what I will speak unto thee, saying, Y'hovah (3068) Elohim (430) of heaven and earth spoke unto our fathers Av'raham (85) and Yits'chaq (3327), saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land for an inheritance forever.

18 xy:

Now therefore all that our father has left is before thee, and behold all the land is before thee; choose thou from them what thou desirest.

19 jy:

If thou desirest the whole land take it for thee and thy children forever, and I will take this riches, and it thou desirest the riches take it unto thee, and I will take this land for me and for my children to inherit it forever.

20 k:

And N'vayot (5032), the son of Yish'ma'el (3458), was then in the land with his children, and Esav (6215) went on that day and consulted with him, saying.

21 ak:

Thus has Ya'aqov (3290) spoken unto me, and thus has he answered me, now give thy advice and we will hear.

22 bk:

And N'vayot (5032) said, What is this that Ya'aqov (3290) hath spoken unto thee? behold all the children of K'na'an (3667) are dwelling securely in their land, and Ya'aqov (3290) sayeth he will inherit it with his seed all the days.

23 gk:

Go now therefore and take all thy father's riches and leave Ya'aqov (3290) thy brother in the land, as he has spoken.

24 dk:

And Esav (6215) rose up and returned to Ya'aqov (3290), and did all that N'vayot (5032) the son of Yish'ma'el (3458) had advised; and Esav (6215) took all the riches that Yits'chaq (3327) had left, the souls, the beasts, the cattle and the property, and all the riches; he gave nothing to his brother Ya'aqov (3290); and Ya'aqov (3290) took all the land of K'na'an (3667), from the brook of Mits'rayim (4714) unto the river P'rat (6578), and he took it for an everlasting possession, and for his children and for his seed after him forever.

25 hk:

Ya'aqov (3290) also took from his brother Esav (6215) the cave of Makh'pelah (4375), which is in Chev'ron (2275), which Av'raham (85) had bought from Eph'ron (6085) for a possession of a burial place for him and his seed forever.

26 wk:

And Ya'aqov (3290) wrote all these things in the book of purchase, and he signed it, and he testified all this with four faithful witnesses.

27 zk:

And these are the words which Ya'aqov (3290) wrote in the book, saying: The land of K'na'an (3667) and all the cities of the Chiti (2850), the Chivi (2340), the Y'vusi, (2983) the Emori (567), the P'rizi (6522), and the Gir'gashi (1622), all the seven nations from the river of Mits'rayim (4714) unto the river P'rat (6578).

28 xk:

And the city of Chev'ron (2275) Qir'yat Ar'ba (7153), and the cave which is in it, the whole did Ya'aqov (3290) buy from his brother Esav (6215) for value, for a possession and for an inheritance for his seed after him forever.

29 jk:

And Ya'aqov (3290) took the book of purchase and the signature, the command and the statutes and the revealed book, and he placed them in an earthen vessel in order that they should remain for a long time, and he delivered them into the hands of his children.

30 l:

Esav (6215) took all that his father had left him after his death from his brother Ya'aqov (3290), and he took all the property, from man and beast, camel and ass, ox and lamb, silver and gold, stones and bdellium, and all the riches which had belonged to Yits'chaq (3327) the son of Av'raham (85); there was nothing left which Esav (6215) did not take unto himself, from all that Yits'chaq (3327) had left after his death.

31 al:

And Esav (6215) took all this, and he and his children went home to the land of Se'ir (8165) the Chori (2752), away from his brother Ya'aqov (3290) and his children.

32 bl:

And Esav (6215) had possessions amongst the children of Se'ir (8165), and Esav (6215) returned not to the land of K'na'an (3667) from that day forward.

33 gl:

And the whole land of K'na'an (3667) became an inheritance to the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) for an everlasting inheritance, and Esav (6215) with all his children inherited the mountain of Se'ir (8165).
