haYashar Jasher 64

1 a:

And Bil'am (1109) the son of B'or (1160) was at that time with Angeas in the battle, and when he saw that Ts'pho (6825) prevailed over Angeas, he fled from there and came to Kitim (3794).

2 b:

And Ts'pho (6825) and the sons of Kitim (3794) received him with great honor, for Ts'pho (6825) knew the wisdom of Bil'am (1109), and Ts'pho (6825) gave unto Bil'am (1109) many gifts and he remained with him.

3 g:

And when Ts'pho (6825) had returned from the war, he commanded all the sons of Kitim (3794) to be numbered who had gone into battle with him, and behold not one was missed.

4 d:

And Ts'pho (6825) rejoiced at this thing, and he renewed his kingdom, and he made a feast to all his subjects.

5 h:

But Ts'pho (6825) remembered not Y'hovah (3068) Elohim (430) and considered not that Y'hovah (3068) Elohim (430) had helped him in battle, and that he had delivered him and his people from the hand of the one reigning of Africa, but still walked in the ways of the sons of Kitim (3794) and the wicked sons of Esav (6215), to serve other elohim (430) which his brethren the sons of Esav (6215) had taught him; it is therefore said, From the wicked goes forth wickedness.

6 w:

And Ts'pho (6825) reigned over all the sons of Kitim (3794) securely, but knew not Y'hovah (3068) Elohim (430) who had delivered him and all his people from the hand of the one reigning of Africa; and the troops of Africa came no more to Kitim (3794) to plunder as usual, for they knew of the power of Ts'pho (6825) who had smitten them all at the edge of the sword, so Angeas was afraid of Ts'pho (6825) the son of Eliphaz (464), and of the sons of Kitim (3794) all the days.

7 z:

At that time when Ts'pho (6825) had returned from the war, and when Ts'pho (6825) had seen how he prevailed over all the people of Africa and had smitten them in battle at the edge of the sword, then Ts'pho (6825) advised with the sons of Kitim (3794), to go to Mits'rayim (4714) to fight with the sons of Ya'aqov (3290) and with Pharaoh one reigning of Mits'rayim (4714).

8 x:

For Ts'pho (6825) heard that the mighty men of Mits'rayim (4714) were dead and that Yoseph (3130) and his brethren the sons at Ya'aqov (3290) were dead, and that all their sons the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) remained in Mits'rayim (4714).

9 j:

And Ts'pho (6825) considered to go to fight against them and all Mits'rayim (4714), to avenge the cause of his brethren the sons of Esav (6215), whom Yoseph (3130) with his brethren and all Mits'rayim (4714) had smitten in the land of K'na'an (3667), when they went up to bury Ya'aqov (3290) in Chev'ron (2275).

10 y:

And Ts'pho (6825) sent messengers to Hadad (1908), son of B'dad (911), one reigning of Edom (123), and to all his brethren the sons of Esav (6215), saying,

11 ay:

Did you not say that you would not fight against the one reigning of Africa for he is a member of your covenant? behold I fought with him and smote him and all his people.

12 by:

Now therefore I have resolved to fight against Mits'rayim (4714) and the sons of Ya'aqov (3290) who are there, and I will be revenged of them for what Yoseph (3130), his brethren and ancestors did to us in the land of K'na'an (3667) when they went up to bury their father in Chev'ron (2275).

13 gy:

Now then if you are willing to come to me to assist me in fighting against them and Mits'rayim (4714), then shall we avenge the cause of our brethren.

14 dy:

And the sons of Esav (6215) hearkened to the words of Ts'pho (6825), and the sons of Esav (6215) gathered themselves together, a very great people, and they went to assist Ts'pho (6825) and the sons of Kitim (3794) in battle.

15 hj:

And Ts'pho (6825) sent to all the sons of the east and to all the sons of Yish'ma'el (3458) with words like unto these, and they gathered themselves and came to the assistance of Ts'pho (6825) and the sons of Kitim (3794) in the war upon Mits'rayim (4714).

16 wj:

And all these kings, the one reigning of Edom (123) and the sons of the east, and all the sons of Yish'ma'el (3458), and Ts'pho (6825) the one reigning of Kitim (3794) went forth and arrayed all their hosts in Chev'ron (2275).

17 zy:

And the camp was very heavy, extending in length a distance of three days' journey, a people numerous as the sand upon the sea shore which can not be counted.

18 xy:

And all these kings and their hosts went down and came against all Mits'rayim (4714) in battle, and encamped together in the valley of Pat'ros (6624).

19 jy:

And all Mits'rayim (4714) heard their report, and they also gathered themselves together, all the people of the land of Mits'rayim (4714), and of all the cities belonging to Mits'rayim (4714), about three hundred thousand men.

20 k:

And the men of Mits'rayim (4714) sent also to the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) who were in those days in the land of Goshen (1657), to come to them in order to go and fight with these kings.

21 ak:

And the men of Yis'ra'el (3478) assembled and were about one hundred and fifty men, and they went into battle to assist Mits'rayim (4714).

22 bk:

And the men of Yis'ra'el (3478) and of Mits'rayim (4714) went forth, about three hundred thousand men and one hundred and fifty men, and they went toward these kings to battle, and they placed themselves from without the land of Goshen (1657) opposite Pat'ros (6624).

23 gk:

And Mits'rayim (4714) believed not in Yis'ra'el (3478) to go with them in their camps together for battle, for all Mits'rayim (4714) said, Perhaps the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) will deliver us into the hand of the sons of Esav (6215) and Yish'ma'el (3458), for they are their brethren.

24 dk:

And all Mits'rayim (4714) said unto the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478), Remain you here together in your stand and we will go and fight against the sons of Esav (6215) and Yish'ma'el (3458), and if these kings should prevail over us, then come you altogether upon them and assist us, and the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) did so.

25 hk:

And Ts'pho (6825) the son of Eliphaz (464) the son of Esav (6215) one reigning of Kitim (3794), and Hadad (1908) the son of B'dad (911) one reigning of Edom (123), and all their camps, and all the sons of the east, and sons of Yish'ma'el (3458), a people numerous as sand, encamped together in the valley of Pat'ros (6624) opposite Tachpanches (8471).

26 wk:

And Bil'am (1109) the son of B'or (1160) the Syrian was there in the camp of Ts'pho (6825), for he came with the sons of Kitim (3794) to the battle, and Bil'am (1109) was a man highly honored in the eyes of Ts'pho (6825) and his men.

27 zk:

And Ts'pho (6825) said unto Bil'am (1109), Try by divination for us that we may know who will prevail in the battle, we or Mits'rayim (4714).

28 xk:

And Bil'am (1109) rose up and tried the art of divination, and he was skillful in the knowledge of it, but he was confused and the work was destroyed in his hand.

29 jk:

And he tried it again but it did not succeed, and Bil'am (1109) despaired of it and left it and did not complete it, for this was from Y'hovah (3068) Elohim (430), in order to cause Ts'pho (6825) and his people to fall into the hand of the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478), who had trusted in Y'hovah (3068) Elohim (430), the Elohim (430) of their ancestors, in their war.

30 l:

And Ts'pho (6825) and Hadad (1908) put their forces in battle array, and all Mits'rayim (4714) went alone against them, about three hundred thousand men, and not one man of Yis'ra'el (3478) was with them.

31 al:

And all Mits'rayim (4714) fought with these kings opposite Pat'ros (6624) and Tachpanches (8471), and the battle was severe against Mits'rayim (4714).

32 bl:

And the kings were stronger than Mits'rayim (4714) in that battle, and about one hundred and eighty men of Mits'rayim (4714) fell on that day, and about thirty men of the forces of the kings, and all the men of Mits'rayim (4714) fled from before the kings, so the sons of Esav (6215) and Yish'ma'el (3458) pursued Mits'rayim (4714), continuing to smite them unto the place where was the camp of the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478).

33 gl:

And all Mits'rayim (4714) cried unto the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478), saying, Hasten to us and assist us and save us from the hand of Esav (6215), Yish'ma'el (3458) and the sons of Kitim (3794).

34 dl:

And the hundred and fifty men of the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) ran from their station to the camps of these kings, and the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) cried unto Y'hovah (3068) Elohim (430) their Elohim (430) to deliver them.

35 hl:

And Y'hovah (3068) Elohim (430) hearkened to Yis'ra'el (3478), and Y'hovah (3068) Elohim (430) gave all the men of the kings into their hand, and the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) fought against these kings, and the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) smote about four thousand of the kings' men.

36 wl:

And Y'hovah (3068) Elohim (430) threw a great consternation in the camp of the kings, so that the fear of the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) fell upon them.

37 zl:

And all the hosts of the kings fled from before the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) and the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) pursued them continuing to smite them unto the borders of the land of Kush (3568).

38 xl:

And the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) slew of them in the road yet two thousand men, and of the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) not one fell.

39 jl:

And when Mits'rayim (4714) saw that the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) had fought with such few men with the kings, and that the battle was so very severe against them,

40 m:

All Mits'rayim (4714) were greatly afraid of their lives on account of the strong battle, and all Mits'rayim (4714) fled, every man hiding himself from the arrayed forces, and they hid themselves in the road, and they left Yis'ra'el (3478) to fight.

41 am:

And the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) inflicted a terrible blow upon the kings' men, and they returned from them after they had driven them to the border of the land of Kush (3568).

42 bm:

And all Yis'ra'el (3478) knew the thing which the men of Mits'rayim (4714) had done to them, that they had fled from them in battle, and had left them to fight alone.

43 gm:

So the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) also acted with cunning, and as the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) returned from battle, they found some of Mits'rayim (4714) in the road and smote them there.

44 dm:

And whilst they slew them, they said unto them these words:

45 hm:

Wherefore did you go from us and leave us, being a few people, to fight against these kings who had a great people to smite us, that you might thereby deliver your own souls?

46 wm:

And of some which Yis'ra'el (3478) met on the road, they the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) spoke to each other, saying, Smite, smite, for he is an Yish'ma'eli (3458), or an Edomi (123), or from the sons of Kitim (3794), and they stood over him and slew him, and they knew that he was a Mits'ri (4714) (4714).

47 zm:

And the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) did these things cunningly against Mits'rayim (4714), because they had deserted them in battle and had fled from them.

48 xm:

And the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) slew of the men of Mits'rayim (4714) in the road in this manner, about two hundred men.

49 jm:

And all the men of Mits'rayim (4714) saw the evil which the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) had done to them, so all Mits'rayim (4714) feared greatly the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478), for they had seen their great power, and that not one man of them had fallen.

50 n:

So all the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) returned with joy on their road to Goshen (1657), and the rest of Mits'rayim (4714) returned each man to his place.
