haYashar Jasher 75

1 a:

At that time, in the hundred and eightieth year of the Yis'ra'el (3478) going down into Mits'rayim (4714), there went forth from Mits'rayim (4714) valiant men, thirty thousand on foot, from the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478), who were all of the tribe of Yoseph (3130), of the sons of Eph'rayim (669) the son of Yoseph (3130).

2 b:

For they said the period was completed which Y'hovah (3068) Elohim (430) had appointed to the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) in the times of old, which he had spoken to Av'raham (85).

3 g:

And these men girded themselves, and they put each man his sword at his side, and every man his armor upon him, and they trusted to their strength, and they went out together from Mits'rayim (4714) with a mighty hand.

4 d:

But they brought no provision for the road, only silver and gold, not even bread for that day did they bring in their hands, for they thought of getting their provision for pay from the P'lish'tim (6430), and if not they would take it by force.

5 h:

And these men were very mighty and valiant men, one man could pursue a thousand and two could rout ten thousand, so they trusted to their strength and went together as they were.

6 w:

And they directed their course toward the land of Gat (1661), and they went down and found the shepherds of Gat (1661) feeding the cattle of the sons of Gat (1661).

7 z:

And they said to the shepherds, Give us some of the sheep for pay, that we may eat, for we are hungry, for we have eaten no bread this day.

8 x:

And the shepherds said, Are they our sheep or cattle that we should give them to you even for pay? so the sons of Eph'rayim (669) approached to take them by force.

9 j:

And the shepherds of Gat (1661) shouted over them that their cry was heard at a distance, so all the sons of Gat (1661) went out to them.

10 y:

And when the sons of Gat (1661) saw the evil doings of the sons of Eph'rayim (669), they returned and assembled the men of Gat (1661), and they put on each man his armor, and came forth to the sons of Eph'rayim (669) for battle.

11 ay:

And they engaged with them in the valley of Gat (1661), and the battle was severe, and they smote from each other a great many on that day.

12 by:

And on the second day the sons of Gat (1661) sent to all the cities of the P'lish'tim (6430) that they should come to their help, saying,

13 gy:

Come up unto us and help us, that we may smite the sons of Eph'rayim (669) who have come forth from Mits'rayim (4714) to take our cattle, and to fight against us without cause.

14 dy:

Now the souls of the sons of Eph'rayim (669) were exhausted with hunger and thirst, for they had eaten no bread for three days. And forty thousand men went forth from the cities of the P'lish'tim (6430) to the assistance of the men of Gat (1661).

15 hj:

And these men were engaged in battle with the sons of Eph'rayim (669), and Y'hovah (3068) Elohim (430) delivered the sons of Eph'rayim (669) into the hands of the P'lish'tim (6430).

16 wj:

And they smote all the sons of Eph'rayim (669), all who had gone forth from Mits'rayim (4714), none were remaining but ten men who had run away from the engagement.

17 zy:

For this evil was from Y'hovah (3068) Elohim (430) against the sons of Eph'rayim (669), for they transgressed the being spoken of Y'hovah (3068) Elohim (430) in going forth from Mits'rayim (4714), before the period had arrived which Y'hovah (3068) Elohim (430) in the days of old had appointed to Yis'ra'el (3478).

18 xy:

And of the P'lish'tim (6430) also there fell a great many, about twenty thousand men, and their brethren carried them and buried them in their cities.

19 jy:

And the slain of the sons of Eph'rayim (669) remained forsaken in the valley of Gat (1661) for many days and years, and were not brought to burial, and the valley was filled with men's bones.

20 k:

And the men who had escaped from the battle came to Mits'rayim (4714), and told all the sons of Yis'ra'el (3478) all that had befallen them.

21 ak:

And their father Eph'rayim (669) mourned over them for many days, and his brethren came to console him.

22 bk:

And he came unto his wife and she bare a son, and he called his name B'ri'ah (1283), for she was unfortunate in his house.
